Mā tēnei mahi ka taea e ngā akonga te whakaako i roto i te reo Māori ki ngā tamariki kei roto i ngā karaehe rumaki, ngā karaehe reo rua me ngā karaehe o te kura auraki. Ka tirohia ngā marautanga Te Reo Māori, ‘Te Aho Arataki mō te ako i Te Reo Māori – Kura Auraki’ me te NCEA.

Ko te māramatanga / Understanding

The teaching of Te Reo Māori involves an understanding of specific curriculum knowledge. There are many different forms of assessment, of which NCEA is a focus.

This paper provides opportunities for students to develop the skills, attributes, and knowledge related to the University of Waikato, Faculty of Education BTchg graduate profile and the academic rationale and goals for its teacher education programmes, particularly those that relate to the purposes, principles, practices and issues of Māori Education (Yr 11-13). Students completing this paper also develop their:

  • Graduating teacher standards of professional knowledge, professional practice, and professional values and relationships as outlined in the Graduating Teacher Standards: Aotearoa New Zealand. Specific standards identified in this paper are standards 1, 3, 4, 6 and 7; and
  • Cultural competencies of wānanga, whanaungatanga, tangata whenuatanga, manaakitanga and ako as outlined in Tātaiako: Cultural competencies for teachers of Maori learners. Specific competencies addressed in this paper are W1, W2, W3, W4, WH1, WH3, WH4, WH5, T1, T2, T3, T4, M1, M2, M4, A1, A2, A3 and A4.
